If You Are Into Wholesale, Dealer Auto Auctions Are For You
When you are a dealer, dealer auto auctions are where you go to get your vehicles. You'll need a license in order to purchase vehicles.
A public car auction, on the other hand, can be bid on by you or I. We can just go there and put in bids as if we were a dealer. If you go to government auto auction sites, they will generally offer both dealer and public auctions, as well. You can get incredible prices on those vehicles, particularly if it's not a popular vehicle.

They're at 3856 S. Military Way in Chesapeake, VA, 23321 on the S. Military Highway (Route 460/3). They currently have 523 cars. Here is their listing of current vehicles: amerautoauction.com/listingsva.aspx This would include everything from a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS to 2007 Honda Accord LX. An online car auction lets you purchase vehicles right on-line. You go there, click on the link, and within 20 minutes you can be bidding on vehicles right on-line. Look for sites which give more than one view of the vehicle. The more views you get, the better you can tell how good the vehicle is. Also, they should put the VIN number on-line. If they do, you can check out to see what the CarFacts are about that vehicle. Obviously, if you're purchasing salvage autos, that won't matter. I would say that the majority of websites out there aim at the wholesale dealer auctions, rather than public auctions, merely because that's the source of used cars for many dealers. If a dealer needs to put ten cars through a lot in a week, he's just not going to be able to do that with walk-in traffic. Not only would he have to wrangle with individuals instead of actually sell vehicles, but the prices wouldn't be as good as those offered by the salvage tow yards. When you go to dealer auto auctions, you generally aren't just buying one vehicle. You want the yard to hand-pick and even set aside the best ones as they come in. The rest get put onto public auctions. So, obviously, the dealer gets first dibs on the autos. The public just isn't as interested. If they knew more about it, they'd probably go also, but they know that what they don't know could kill them. If you shell out $4000 for a car that you can't use, you're in trouble. If a dealer shells out $4000, he might have a pact with the company that if it's bad, they can trade it back for another one. This would be an advantage to the yard if they are dealing with 100 cars a month to a particular dealer. So, dealer auto auctions are good for dealers, only. The ones who have been doing it for ten years know what to look out for. If you are thinking of trying your hand at public auctions, make sure you research up on it beforehand so you don't get in trouble. |
